I'm drawn to finding interesting compositions in nature and then abstracting the visual elements so that they reveal to me the hidden content of the subject. Certain scenes will disclose to me both the actual subject as well as a more sublime idea. I use the components of value, texture, color, line, form and space to heighten the subject conveyed and to impart more meaning. The finished work becomes a journal of where I have been. They capture for me a transcendent experience in a time and place when I was able to focus all of my attention on the present moment. For me that is the goal and joy of making art.
